I have found a favorite spot for photographing people in Sarasota, FL. It is on the south side of Main Street, which is always in shade. And on sunny days, buildings on the opposite side of the street reflect light which seems to bounce everywhere. Every portrait that I have taken in this area (including Phil) has had favorable lighting. And there’s a coffee shop! I’ll probably start camping out there. I listened to a Vincent Versace podcast this morning and he quoted someone saying, “Build the stage and the players will come”. We’ll see.
Anyway, I purchased a cup of coffee and saw Phil through the window. He was seated at a table belonging to the coffee shop, although he had nothing. So I went outside, introduced myself, and popped the question: he had absolutely no reservations about being photographed. He has lived in the area for 10 years.

Phil did not mention residential status, but did ask if I could “help him out”. I have a couple of dollars set aside for this eventuality and passed it along. He was VERY appreciative, and I suspect that he was also appreciative of the time and conversation.
